CHPNet UK | October 2026
This October, CHPNet UK is bringing breast cancer awareness into the heart of our communities. Through a series of community talks, we will raise awareness among Black African and African Caribbean communities, encourage open conversations and help people feel more confident about recognising breast changes and seeking medical advice.
Why awareness matters
Around 1 in 7 women in the UK will develop breast cancer during their lifetime. Knowing what is normal for your breasts and getting changes checked promptly can help identify cancer earlier, when treatment is more likely to be successful. (cancerresearchuk.org, breastcancernow.org)
A UK survey published by Breast Cancer Now in July 2026 found that, among Black and South Asian women surveyed, 43% checked their breasts regularly, while 15% had never checked. Some reported not knowing what to look for or lacking confidence in checking. These combined figures highlight the continuing need for accessible, culturally appropriate information. CHPNet’s approach is to bring reliable health information into trusted community and faith settings, creating space for questions, addressing misconceptions and encouraging timely access to care.
